Wise Men

They traversed mountains and sands to bestow sacred gifts. A line for those seeking deeply healing, microbiome-nurturing, and therapeutic treatments.

Named for the priesthood healers of ancient Zoroastrianism,
Revered for their wisdom and healing secrets,
Known by name to us now as the Three Magi, or Wise Men,
They carried the protections of gold, frankincense, and myrrh across empires,
To welcome and safeguard the Holy Light of a newborn King.
Healing, nurturing, and protective. The significance of wisdom.

Domingos Sequeira, “Adoration of the Magi,” 1828

The Three Magi, or Wise Men, were courageous priests of Zoroastrianism, the world’s first monotheistic religion and official religion of ancient Persia; they crossed great distances to honor the Holy Child with three holy gifts. The Wise Men line harnesses the ancient medicinal wisdom of this esteemed priesthood through the healing duo of frankincense and myrrh, once considered priceless. The protective, healing, and regenerative properties of frankincense and myrrh were so holy and sacred, they comprised two of the three gifts to the Holy Child. Frankincense and myrrh were sought after for their medicinal and curative properties, and were widely traded along the ancient Silk Road.

Our organic frankincense essential oil is derived from the resin of the Boswellia Sacra tree – the same one of biblical history – that is native to Oman, Yemen and the horn of Africa (Somalia). Frankincense essential oil has been a popular ingredient in cosmetics for centuries. It is a powerful astringent that helps to tone and tighten the skin, aids with regenerating skin cells, slows signs of aging, and is useful for reducing acne, large pores, sun spots, and wrinkles. Its anti-inflammatory properties have shown effectiveness in treating infected wounds, irritation, and redness.

Our organic myrrh essential oil comes from the dried sap from Commiphora myrrha, a thorny tree native to northeastern Africa and southwest Asia. Myrrh has long been used in traditional Ayurvedic, Chinese, Egyptian and Persian medicine, particularly for its potent antimicrobial benefits. Ancient Egyptians used myrrh to embalm mummies, as the oil helped to slow decay by killing bacteria and other microbes. In Biblical times, myrrh incense — often in combination with frankincense — was burned in places of worship to help purify the air and prevent the spread of contagious diseases, including those caused by bacteria. One study found that burning myrrh and frankincense incense reduced airborne bacterial counts by 68%. Preliminary animal research suggests that myrrh can directly kill bacteria, as well as stimulate the immune system to make more white blood cells. In test tube studies, myrrh essential oil has strong effects against several infectious bacteria, including some drug-resistant ones. Another test tube study found that myrrh essential oil was more effective than vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, at fighting free radicals.

Together, frankincense and myrrh form a powerful rejuvenating pair that supports cellular health, promotes wound healing, soothes redness, reduces blemishes and acne, and helps fade scar and stretch marks. They offer potent astringent, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and antioxidant benefits. They contribute to why our Wise Men Elixir Vitae Scar Massage Treatment reduces scar fibrotic tissue and hyperpigmentation, and why users of the Wise Men Microbiome Repair Therapeutic Body Oil find that fungal skin infections reconcile, and skin is deeply revitalized.
