- A 2020 randomized clinical trial of 150 patients evaluated geranium essential oil & music therapy on pre-op anxiety of patients; while both the geranium and music therapy groups had significantly lower mean anxiety scores compared with control, the decrease in the mean anxiety score for the geranium group was greater than the music therapy group.
- A 2018 randomized, controlled trial on anxiety (using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory) and sleep quality (using the Pittsburgh Quality Sleep Index) of chemotherapy patients found a significant difference in the anxiety and sleep quality values of patients treated with lavender essential oil before and after chemotherapy.
- A 2014 clinical trial of 140 postpartum women found that mean anxiety, stress and depression scores at 2 weeks, 1 month and 3 months after delivery were significantly lower in the group that received lavender aromatherapy as compared to the control group.
- In a 2006 study of ylang ylang oil, human test participants experienced reduced blood pressure, and reported feeling more calm and relaxed than control subjects.
- A 2004 study of ylang ylang oil uncovered a harmonizing effect, whereby test subjects experienced declines in blood pressure and pulse rate, paired with increases in attentiveness and alertness.
